Week of September 21, 2015

Religion - What a wonderful week to be able to teach Religion!  (Actually, every week is a wonderful week to teach Religion). We are counting down to the arrival of Pope Francis in the United States.  The students are researching the various symbols or garments that a pope would have.  They are also discovering the many different names a pope has in order to fulfill his three primary jobs.

Language Arts - This week's WoW word is arduous.  The prompt is: Write about a task that is arduous for you.   We are continuing our study of nouns by learning about nouns as a direct object.  We are reading a few more chapters of From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler  and will have another comprehension check before the week is over.

Math - We are starting Chapter 2 which deals with estimation, addition and subtraction of whole numbers and decimals. The students will be transitioning to using the traditional algorithm.

Social Studies - We are beginning Chapter 2  on Native Americans.  We start by learning about the early people who came to the Americas.  We will discuss some theories of how and when they came to the Americas.  Throughout this chapter, the students will be focusing on how people interact with their environment and are affected by it.
