Week of September 19, 2017

Religion – This week we are finishing chapter 2.  In this chapter the students are learning how they can participate in the mission of the Church and how they can give witness to Christ today. Pop Quiz: Ask your child what the Paschal Mystery is, and the difference between the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. J  We are also learning about the events that happened in Fatima.  The statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be here at Mass on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.  Please join us if you are able.

Language Arts – This week’s WoW  word is pedestrian.  The prompt is: What is the most nonpedestrian thing you have ever done?  We are focusing in on the writing trait of sentence fluency.  In grammar, we are finishing up on nouns and moving onto verbs. In Reading, the students are finishing reading their September book.  The Book Project will be coming home this Friday.  It will be due on October 4, 2017.  In class, we are continuing to read From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Bail E. Frankweiler.  Will Jamie and Claudia be caught?  Will they discover the answer to the mystery of the angel? 

Math – We have been using the divisibility rules to break down a target number into its prime factorization.  We are also working on probability by describing the chance that an event will occur or not occur.

Social Studies – We have begun Unit 2 Native Americans.  The first lesson begins with the Early People and some of the various theories of how people came to North and South America.  Throughout this chapter there will be small quizzes on vocabulary words and reading check questions, as well as an end to the chapter test.
