Curriculum Focus: 8th grade Religion focuses on The Church Then and Now. The text is Christ Our Life by Loyola Press. The ultimate goal is to grow a personal relationship with Christ and foster lifelong learning of and love for the Lord so we can all be together in Heaven! To ensure consistent progress and development, this book series employs a spiral curriculum. The program for each grade level builds upon previous ones, following a pattern of continuous growth in depth and scope.
The eighth grade program is devoted to the study of God’s faithful love as it is revealed in the Church founded by Jesus Christ. The Church Then and Now is designed to help young teens grow in their knowledge and love of the Church.
Throughout the year students should come to a deeper understanding of the Church by studying its images, history and members, grow in love for Catholic beliefs and ritual and strive to respond to God’s love through Christian morality, service, prayer, and witness.
Prayer: Each class begins with a prayer, and opportunity for offering of personal intentions. We will utilize scripture, traditional Catholic prayers, music, and spontaneous and student-created prayer throughout the year.
The BEST way to know God is to talk with Him, or more importantly, listen to Him, in private prayer. I will encourage your children to designate a quiet, comfortable place at home for regular private prayer.
Tests: Content is very important and tests are a necessary measurement tool but stress is not an emotion I want to connect with Religion class. We will not have much homework but when it is assigned it is expected to be completed and turned in on time.
Projects: Projects are assigned to enhance the understanding of religious concepts and often time is provided in class to complete projects.
Grading: A point system is used. Tests, homework, and class participation contribute to trimester grades.
School Masses: You are always welcome to join us in praise and worship!
Please contact me at any time with questions, ideas, or if you would like to share an activity with the class. I welcome any ideas you wish to share to make our religion class a more enriching experience! Email is the best way to communicate.

Prayer for Children
Lord Jesus, who loved the little ones, Bless the children of this family, Guide and protect them through their growing years And throughout their lives.
Be to them a true shepherd And suffer them not to fall away from Your love and service. May they always listen to your voice, Because they know you as their Lord and Savior. Amen
