Classroom Procedures for American History:

• We will spend approximately 2 days on each lesson. The following is our general routine:

•  Day 1 – Introduce lesson – read the lesson as a class, small group or independently

•  Homework: Complete summary review

•  Day 2 – Review homework; Notes; Discussion - Video of the lesson

• Assessment:  Complete Section Quiz

• Homework: Summary of the lesson with review questions

•  All students will receive a worksheet packet at the beginning of each chapter. The worksheet packet includes:

There will be a quiz over each lesson discussed in class. (2-3 quizzes per week)

• There will be a test at the end of each chapter.

Civics 3rd Trimester

•  We will spend approximately one week on each chapter ending with a chapter quiz.

•  During the weeks of the Political Convention students will be responsible for a variety of in-class work.

•  The Political Convention dates have not been finalized.

Overall

Grades are based on:

•  performance on test and quizzes

•  class participation activities

•  Tests are worth 100 points.

•  Quizzes are worth between 8-20 points.

•  Completed homework is worth 5 points per lesson.

•  Current event activities and classroom participation points will vary between 10 and 30 points.

•  Complete assignments must be turned in on the due date. I will take one day late assignments but only half credit will be given. Any assignment later than one day is a zero.

•  Absent students will be expected to complete scheduled quizzes that they may have missed as soon as possible. Students returning from an absence should see me at the beginning of the period to make sure they have all the information they may have missed from a previous class.

Behavior

•  Classroom rules are based on Parent/Student Handbook.

•  Students who are missing materials needed for class such as books, notebooks or homework-assignments will sign the Sign-Out Sheet. This will serve as a verbal and written warning to the student.

•  Students who sign-in four times in one week will receive a demerit. Each week students will receive a fresh start. I will use the Sign-Out sheet as a tool to determine behavior for the grading term in question.

•  For serious infractions, immediate issue of a demerit or detention may be necessary.

Ways to help your child have a successful year…

1. Periodically check your child's planner and packet. (Look for assignments written clearly in the planner.)

•  If a student forgets to write an assignment down, check the school web-site.

•  Look for any missing assignment stamps. I will stamp the students packet with a Missing Assignment Stamp.

•  Large designs or missing pages are a good clue that something is not right!

2. Check grades on-line weekly to see student progress.

•  Students must have their names on all of their belongings! This includes their name and the subject name on all their folders, notebooks, textbooks etc.

•  If a problem arises, please:

•  Have your child speak to me directly

• Contact me via telephone 831-5277 (ext. 2 then 6) or e-mail gullemank@saseasschool.org

I update my web page often. This includes a summary of upcoming assignments and chapter descriptions. Please check this for up-to-date information!

•  Encourage independence!

Let's Have a Great Year!
