Curriculum

 

Religion    

Our daily mission is to show Christ in all we do. The kindergarten program includes teaching Bible stories, prayers and attending liturgies. Throughout the day, we always try to do our best, show kindness and respect to everyone and thank God for all our blessings.

Physical Education

The physical education program encourages participation in a wide variety of activities that focuses on cooperation and sportsmanship. Body management skills include activities such as ball handling skills, games, and relays.

 

Language Arts

The language arts program includes reading, writing, speaking and listening. Letter names, sounds and information are practiced on a daily basis. Once the sound-symbol relationship is established, there is daily practice with reading and writing words.  We finally begin reading sentences and simple stories. Supplementary help individualize the reading process as the year progresses. Throughout the day, children are exposed to a wide variety of literature.

 

Mathematics

The kindergarten mathematics program is based on the need for hands-on experiences to build a basis for understanding. Manipulative materials are used to introduce concepts and practice skills. Topics covered include classification, patterns, counting, money, geometry, measurement, graphing, counting, place value and simple addition and subtraction.

 

Computer/Technology

Kindergarten children are introduced to computer use for drawing and simple keyboarding. Skills introduced include logging on and off, opening files, using a drop down menu and toolbars, as well as printing and saving files.

  

Science

Kindergarten science encourages a hands-on introduction to biological, chemical and physical science. Children explore scientific concepts through experimentation and exploration. Critical thinking is encouraged. Topics include the five senses, the human body, the universe, weather, plants and animals.

 

Social Studies

Our social studies program explores the world with the objective of identifying ourselves as citizens of the world.  Children develop an appreciation of how they fit in community. Children learn about other cultures through food, celebrations, music, art and literature.

 

Music Education

The music program integrates song, speech, sign, instruments and movement. Children's natural affinity for music is nurtured through songs and musical games, rhythm studies, instrument playing and listening to a variety of types of music.

 

Art Education

Art reinforces the student's creative abilities by providing opportunities for visual self-expression. Drawing, painting, collage, printmaking etc. are explored throughout the year.
