In The Classroom For the Week of May 5th, 2008
Sixth Grade
Mrs. Ambs:
- Reading: Students will finish the poetry unit this week with reading different forms of poetry, such as, concrete poetry, haiku, and limerick. They will learn that poets choose different forms to express ideas, images, and feelings. In addition, in poetry everyday actions, scenes, and words are presented in a fresh, new way.
- English: On Monday students will have a final opportunity to work with his/ her partner in the computer lab researching his/ her Ohio author. Students have been given class time to complete the Ohio Author Brochure and will present them to the class Thursday and Friday. This is the last week for Unit 12 in Vocabulary Workshop with a test on Friday.
Mr. Bender:
- Religion: Proposing responses to situations and determining the consequences of each. Considering conditions and principles in making a decision. Knowing when and how to make intercessory prayer.
- Social Studies: Explaining some ways in which Napoleon changed France. Tracing efforts by European powers to build empires in the late 1800s. Reviewing for Test. Test will be Wednesday, May 14 th , 2008 .
Mrs. Wolfe:
- Math: Plan for a test on Friday covering ratio and proportion.
- Science: Students should be working on the Tree Report which is due on May 21st. We will test over cell structure and cell processes on Thursday. Look for the permission slip for the field trip to Spring Grove Cemetary where we will locate champion trees and take a look at some of the architecture.
Mrs. Mascolino:
- Art: The sixth grade students are creating their
interpretations of Leonardo da Vinci's The Mona Lisa.
Seventh Grade
Mrs. Bohlen:
- Religion: We wrap up our study of the Beatitudes and begin study of Chapter 15, Jesus' Kingdom of Justice and Love. The message is that our daily moral decisions either further or hinder the Body of Christ and we have a moral obligation to others. This discussion of social justice fits perfectly with the current chapters in Tom Sawyer. We end the week with a birthday celebration of the Church in anticipation of Pentecost Sunday.
- Reading: We continue reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in class. The book took a sinister turn in chapter 9 and we explore the moral dilemma that Huck and Tom face as secret witnesses to a crime do they risk their personal safety and tell what they know, or do they run from their troubles?
- English: Students will complete Unit 12 in the Vocabulary Workshop with a test on Friday. Students also edit and type creative writing from the year, which will be compiled into personal books. The students will design the book cover in Art class and work on finalizing writing over the next several weeks. Typing will be done at home.
Miss Gill:
- Math: Simple and compound interest. Review and Chapter 8 test Thurs. 5/8.
Mrs. Gulleman:
- Social Studies: Students will complete Chapter 17: The Civil War (1861-1865). The test will be given on Friday, May 9.
Mrs. Hamilton:
- Science: Monday- Chapter 1 Review and Study. Tuesday- Test. Wednesday- Start Chapter 2 on Sound waves. Thursday and Friday- Continue Ch. 2 on Sound.
Miss Kelly:
- Spanish: Quiz Tues - ser and tener/Start clothes p253/ Review colors
Mrs. Mascolino:
- Art:
The seventh grade students are drawing cities using
two-point perspective.
Eighth Grade
Miss Gill :
- Math: More factoring polynomials. Review and Chaper 9 test before D.C.
Mr. Goedde:
- Religion: Protestant Reformation
- Reading: Persuasive writing
- English: Persuasive Essays
Mrs. Gulleman:
- Social Studies: Students will begin Chapter 29: Prosperity, Rebellion and Reform (1945-1980). The test over the chapter will be given on Monday, May 12.

designs (radial symmetry). They are also marbling paper.
