8th grade Social Studies

The Democracy Project

Students will discuss the importance of political parties and how they influence our government.  Students will be creating, in small groups, their own third party.  Through this "hands-on" experience, students will create the following for their political party: 

• a name
• an animal symbol
• a slogan
• a location for their "mock" convention (city, state)
• design campaign posters
• create a party platform
• act out a 30 second commercial
• write a party speech

The Democracy Project will take approximately three weeks in class to complete.
