Week of April 16, 2018

Social Studies - We are so close to war it’s not even funny, the Revolutionary War that is.  The students have been learning about the causes that led up to the Revolutionary War and the first battles before war was actually declared.  The students are also memorizing the Preamble of the Constitution. I will quiz them in three weeks. If they are able to recite it, they will earn 25 merits, however if they sing it, they will earn 150 merits!  After one short study session, some of the students were reciting it on the bus to COSI!

Week of November 27, 2017

Social Studies - We are starting Chapter 4 which tells about the early colonies in the Americas.  We will be discussing the conundrum:  What became of the LOST COLONY?

Week of November 13, 2017

Social Studies - We finished lesson 3 today.  Tomorrow the students will be learning about how to read an elevation map.  I would like to have a quiz on Friday covering both lessons 3 and 4 vocabulary and reading check questions.

Week of November 6, 2017

Social Studies – We are continuing our unit on Early Explorers.  This week, we will be completing lessons 1 and 2, describing the aims, obstacles, and accomplishments of early explorers.  Our quiz will be on Thursday, after completing notecards and playing a Jeopardy game as a review

Week of October 23, 2017

Social Studies - We are beginning Chapter 3 on Early Explorers.  The first lesson will be on Exploration and Technology.  The students are always amazed when they discover the new technology was faster ships, better maps, and new navigational tools.  They will also be learning why Europeans began to look for a sea route to Asia.

Week of October 16, 2017

Social Studies – We will finish Unit 2 by learning about the Northwest and Arctic Native Americans.  Then we will finish the review workbook pages and begin our next unit.  Chapter 3 will be on the age of exploration.  We will be learning about and discussing the cultural differences and competition for land which let to conflicts among different groups in the Americas.

Week of October 2, 2017

Social Studies – We are continuing our unit on Native Americans.  This week, we will be studying the Native Americans who lived on the Plains and the tribes who lived in the Southwest. We will have a Quiz after lessons 3 and 4.

Week of September 19, 2017

Social Studies – We have begun Unit 2 Native Americans.  The first lesson begins with the Early People and some of the various theories of how people came to North and South America.  Throughout this chapter there will be small quizzes on vocabulary words and reading check questions, as well as an end to the chapter test.

Week of September 4, 2017

 Social Studies – This year we are studying American History.  The students will have their user name and password to use the online book.  There is a direct link to the online book on my Links page. This week, we are continuing our study of landforms and regions.  Though it is a review, its contents are used in every chapter.  This year, the students are learning how to take notes, as well as, how to read a textbook.
