Because of the feast day today, there was no homework assigned from any of my classes so you could enjoy the time with your family! Happy Feast Day!

Week of December 5

I did survive my first cake auction to benefit the Adopt-A-Family program! Wow! The cakes were creative and beautiful and smelled delicious! Well done in raising over $5000.00!!!
We are entering the second week of Advent. How are we preparing for the coming of our Savior? This week has the feast of the Immaculate Conception. We will be attending Mass on this day and finding others ways to make this day a celebration for our Heavenly Mother, Mary!

November 8, 2016

I am very excited about today! We will be having Eucharistic Adoration all day...well, what that really means is that during each Religion class we are honored with kneeling before The Greatest Teacher that ever lived, Jesus Christ! I know that the parishes planned this to coincide with our country's election, but what we are praying for is a conversion of hearts...mostly ours! At St. Andrew's campus, Fr. Chris has graciously agreed to be present to hear confessions! How awesome it is to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and have Adoration time. We are so blessed!
This is what is happening the rest of the week:
Math - 7y - We are reviewing prime factorization, greatest common factors, and least common multiples! Expect a quiz Thursday!
Math - 7X - We just finished Chapter 4 and are beginning Chapter 5 which deals with proportions and ratios!
Math - 6X - Finishing up our chapter on decimals. Looking at a test on Friday, perhaps!
Religion - We continue to look at Abraham's faith to see how obedient he was to God.
Reading - We are beginning a new novel, A Wrinkle in Time. We will be taking a closer look at 'themes' in a novel. There will be a Vocab Workshop Unit 4 test on Friday. Please study a few words each night!

Week of October 31, 2016

Happy All Saints' Day! November is the month the Church prays for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. I will be passing out a prayer card with the prayer from St. Gertrude. Please pray it with your children and remind them what a wonderful thing it is to be united with all souls...the Communion of Saints!
This is what the week will look like:
Math 7Y - We continue to work on Integers. Look for a Quiz on Thursday that would evaluate how well your child can add, subtract, multiply and divide them. We will also revisit prime factorization this week!
Math 7X - We have been working on the Pythagorean Theorem. Look for a quiz on Thursday!
Math 6X - We are multiplying and dividing decimals this wee.
Reading - We will be working on inferences as we look more closely at two of my favorite pieces of poetry, "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Lee Frost and "Hope is the Thing" by Emily Dickinson. If we have time this week we will look at a plot diagram, discussing each of the 5 main elements.
Religion - We will be studying for our Unit 1 test and then talking about Abraham and how he made a Covenant of faith with the One, True God!

Week of October 24

It was so very nice to meet up with parents during our conferences last week. Thank you for taking the time to come or to notify me by e-mail. If there is someone who would like to connect/chat/e-mail me about their child, please do not hesitate to contact me!
A big "thank you" goes out to Fr. Chris, who came into the classroom to bless our rosaries. Before he would bless them, he gave the kiddos an informal quiz on the rosary. You would have been very proud of them. They impressed Fr. with their knowledge!!!
Here's what the week should look like:
Math - 7y - We have finally moved into Chapter 2 - Integers. We will be adding and subtracting integers!
Math - 7X - We start the week estimating square roots and learning how to factor them. Toward the end of the week, we look at cube roots!
Math - 6X - The 6th graders will be using Math on Monday as the Tech Day they earned during the Run4Fun campaign. The rest of the week we will continue our work with decimals - adding and subtracting. Look for a quiz on Wednesday or Thursday.
Reading - We are finishing our second novel, A Year Down Yonder and looking at elements of a story, particularly point of view and tone/mood of a story.
Religion - We take a look at Noah and the Tower of Babel, finishing up Chapter 4. Chapter 5 is a review unit that will prepare the students for a test over Unit 1. We will also prepare for hosting Mass for All Saints Day!

Week of October 18

So sorry to get this out late! Hope everyone enjoyed their extra day to  relax! We teachers were busy working on our faith journey. That was such a great treat for me to read Scripture and reflect...all before meeting and conferencing with parents!
