Week of August 24, 2015

Welcome to 5th grade!!!
As you can imagine, we started the year by organizing, learning a little about each other, and practicing our daily routines. One major change from 4th to 5th grade is having lockers. At the beginning of the year it is a challenge for the students to keep all of their books and supplies in their lockers instead of their desks and THEN be able to pack up everything they need for the morning or afternoon classes! This is a work in progress that the class is handling quite well.
Religion – We are adding to our knowledge base about Jesus and identifying ways we can follow him.
Lang. Arts – The word of the week (WOW) is garrulous. The prompt is, which animal do you think is garrulous? Students need to write a paragraph with 3 main ideas for choosing their particular animal and 3 supporting details. They are to follow the paragraph planner in their vocabulary folder. Prompts are due on Thursday.
In Reading we are beginning our first class novel, From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.
Math – We are focusing in on multiplication facts, by identifying all given factors for a target number.
Social Studies – This year we are studying American History. The students will have their user name and password to use the online book. There is a direct link to the online book on my Links page.
