Week of September 26, 2016
Religion - During this week we are working on the chapter about The Blessed Virgin Mary. We are learning the many reasons she is called blessed and why she is called the first disciple of Jesus. Pictures for our Mary Wall need to in by Friday.
Language Arts - The WoW prompt will be different this week and until further notice! First off, it will be a piece of expository writing instead of persuasive. Throughout the week, we will be teaching mini lessons based on the 6 traits of writing. After each lesson, the student will apply this knowledge to their prompt. This week the prompt will be due on Friday. In this way both sweet, adorable, darling teachers (Mrs. Woodall and myself) are striving to improve our students writing abilities and to help them gain confidence in their own abilities.
In Reading, we are continuing to read From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. This week we are focusing on the author's craft of using similes and aphorisms in her writing. We will also be working on characterizations of the protagonists, Jamie and Claudia.
Social Studies - We are beginning Chapter 2 Native Americans by discussing the early people who lived in North America. The students will be learning how the changes in the environment affected the early peoples' lives. How the environment affect people's lives is the major theme throughout this chapter.
