My Teaching Philosophy

Some people think that art is only for talented or gifted people and this belief may come from their own art experiences. Art education and our visual culture have changed greatly in this regard. If I thought that only talented and gifted students could create and appreciate art, then I would not be a teacher. I believe every person can create and experience art. Art is a form of communication and expression that has no language barrier. It is not expected that every student will use art directly in his or her future career, although many will possibly without realizing it. Through experimentation with various types of media, students will enhance their critical and creative thinking skills learning to communicate their thoughts and ideas visually. It is my hope that art will always enrich the students' lives and help them become innovators, original thinkers and empathetic citizens.
