Week of November 27th

Hello Parents and Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a nice, peaceful Thanksgiving break!  I know it was sure nice to get in some good quality family time at the Wood House!  I can't believe there are only 31/2 weeks until Christmas break!!!  Where in the world is this year going!!!  We have full schedule until the Christmas Holidays!  Here is a peek at what we having going on this week:
In class, we will be reading Chapters 6 and 7 this week.  Both chapters are extremely short and cover the Liturgical Year and Ordinary Time.  There will be no tests over these chapters.  On Friday we will begin our discussion on Advent by coloring Advent Wreaths.  We will have an oral test over the Prayer of St. Gertrude the Great on December 8th.
Reading/Language Arts:
Today we began a new novel, The Cay.  This is a shorter novel and our goal is to finish it before the Christmas break.  We will read chapters 1-6 this week and there will be a quiz on Friday.  Students will be allowed to use books and packets for the quiz.  Our Word of the Week is Novel.  Our prompt is, "What invention or idea would would have seemed novel to our grandparents.  Final Drafts may now be typed, but the rough drafts still need to be hand-written.  Spelling Packets and Grammar Packets were passed out today.  Our spelling list is already on Spelling City.  We will be covering Subject Pronouns, Object Pronouns, and Antecedents this week.
We will have our Chapter 3 Science test on Wednesday.  The children worked on the book review today, and we will do a class review tomorrow.  On Thursday we will begin our in-class biome project.  I can't wait to see what great ideas the children come up with!
We we will cover Lessons 51-54 in my class this week.  I expect to have a test over Lessons 46-50 next Tuesday.
-On Friday, the 5th grade will be selling the magnets and buttons we have worked so hard to make!  Each item will cost $1.  We also have an out of uniform day on Friday for $1.  The money raised from the magnet/button sales and the out of uniform day will all go towards the Adopt a Family program.  Students will be allowed to purchase at least 2, possibly 3 items at our sale.  Personally, I plan on sending $5 will each of my daughters that day.  That will cover the out of uniform, 2 items from the sale, and a small extra donation.
-Please pack a snack daily (thanks for those who brought snacks to share!)
-I think some of our school supplies are due to be replenished.  Items the children seem to be borrowing and not returning include black skinny sharpies, pencils, colored pens, highlighters, and markers.
I hope all of you have a fabulous week!  If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don't hesitate to send me an email!  Thank you for sharing your children with me!  It was good too see them today!
