Week of January 22nd-January 26th

Good Morning Parents and Happy Monday!

I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend!  The children all seem refreshed and ready to go this week!  We are going to be very busy with preparing for Catholic Schools Week this week!  Lots of fun crafts, cleaning, and organizing-while leaning some things here and there as well :-)  Here's a glimpse of our week!

Religion:  We are finishing up Chapter 9 today with the Fruits of the Holy Spirit.  Tomorrow, we will review the chapter and all we have learned about the Sacrament of Confirmation, and then we will have test over the chapter on Wednesday.  We will also be discussing the importance of attending a Catholic School and why we are so fortunate to do so.

Reading/Expression:  Our word of the Week is Plethora!  We will be using this word for our paragraph this week.  Due to the short week, final drafts will be due on Thursday!  Students may type final drafts and send them to me through google docs if they would like.  Rough Drafts must be handwritten.  We will be putting together our snow globes today that will go along with the stories the children turned in last week!  I can't wait to see them all hanging in the hallway!  Your children are all very talented and creative!  We are also continuing our reading of the novel, Holes.  Today we will discuss chapters 18-28, which we read last week, and we will have a quiz over these chapters on Tuesday.  We are at the point in the book where the readers begin to have some good "Aha" moments and connections are starting to be made!  I love the discussions we have been having!  Spelling Packets are going home today.  The spelling list and assignments are up on Spelling City if your child would like to practice for our test on Thursday.  We will focus on Adjectives and Articles in Grammar this week and will have brief quiz over these concepts on Thursday.

Science:  We are continuing our journey through space and will focus on stars, inner, and outer planets.  I am hoping to fit in a lab focusing on the different sizes of the planets on Thursday.  This chapter is quite long, and I have so many extra things I want to give to the children to better our knowledge of space.  I don't expect a test over this chapter until early February.  After the test, we will re-visit Lab-a-Palooza!  I have some fun things planned for that!

Math:  We are moving right along in our math books!  The children seem to be keeping up with our pace.  We will work on Lessons 66-68 This week with a test possibly NEXT Thursday.  I was please with the tests we took this past Friday!
